Earl M. Cummings
Chairman/CEO
Earl M. Cummings, is a leader who builds teams around talent, strategy, execution, and continuing education. In 2000, Earl served as the managing partner of the BestAssets-CitiWest (BAC) where the joint venture generated annual sales of $194 million. By 2004, he was managing Single Family REO properties for clients in the public and private sectors across 29 states and generating more than $600 million in annual sales.
Earl now carries the title of Chairman and CEO of BestAssets, Inc. and The BTS Team (parent company to BestAssets, Inc. and Sirvist, LLC.) The BTS team provides back-office services for HR related services, including payroll and benefits, procurement, accounting and IT-staffing support to 10 offices in as many cites. Earl focuses on developing executive teams and a board culture founded on the principles of integrity, commitment, and adaptability. His newest venture seeks to raise a $350 million fund to acquire single family inventory for investors.
Charles Newcomb
Chief Operating Officer
As Chief Operating Officer (COO), Charles Newcomb directs the overall operations, growth, and development of the company’s strategic direction. His areas of expertise include mortgage operations, process flow analytics, capacity planning, REO management, vendor management, compliance regulations, financial management and personnel development.
Charles joined BestAssets in 2008 and strategically led the turnaround of the REO team by doubling the number of monthly closings. In addition, he reduced the fall-out rate of accepted offers to less than 20% and increased the monthly rate of accepted offers to 42% of listed inventory.
Charles has been in the banking and mortgage industries for more than 25 years, directing operations for Aegis Mortgage Corporation, Irwin Mortgage and Great Western Bank. Prior to joining BestAssets, Inc. in 2008, he served as COO for Stewart Home Retention Services (a division of Stewart Title), and as Senior Vice President – Operations for Aegis Wholesale Corporation. Charles is also Six Sigma certified by Villanova University.
Melissa Morales, CPA
Chief Financial Officer
As Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Melissa Morales directs and provides leadership to the finance and accounting teams. Her areas of expertise include strategic project planning and execution, budgeting and forecasting, treasury management, business process improvements, and team management and development.
Melissa joined BestAssets in 2012 as a Consultant. In this capacity she worked with senior leadership to start a pilot program in real estate investments, purchasing 1 to 4 unit single-family residential real estate properties. As part of this program, Melissa managed the sourcing, purchasing, renovating, and leasing of these investment properties.
Melissa attained a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of New Orleans and has been in the hospitality, real estate and professional services industries for more than 17 years. Her previous experience includes CFO for MC Companies, a multi-family housing property management and development company that managed investments valued at over $130M. During her tenure she developed investor reporting programs and managed private equity funds in excess of $30M. Most recently, Melissa served as CFO for MFR, PC, a public accounting and consulting firm. There she built and managed a shared services team and worked with senior leadership in reviewing merger and acquisition opportunities.
Syalisa Winata, CPA, MBA
Vice President of Business Development
Serving as Vice President, Syalisa strategically directs the Business Development team and managing all potential investment opportunities. Syalisa is constantly developing innovative growth strategies and overseeing potential partnerships, mergers and acquisitions. She currently manages the assets portfolio of 1 to 4 single family properties, targeting an assets value of $50M and implementing “Rent-to-Hold” strategy for the next four to eight years.
Prior to her current role, she served as CFO for BestAssets from 2010 to 2012. Syalisa provided leadership and strategic direction to all aspects of accounting and finance. She maximized the company’s profit by strengthening internal controls, processes, procedures and cost control.
Her professional experience also includes tenures with two of the Big-4 public accounting firms, namely KPMG and Coopers & Lybrand (currently known as Pricewaterhousecoopers).
Ruthie Esene
Director of Human Resources
As Director of Human Resources, Ruthie Esene develops and communicates HR standards, policies and procedures for related activities across all sites. Her Master of Science Degree, paired with a Senior Human Resource Professional certification makes Ruthie a powerful resource for our management staff.
She has refined expertise in fostering solid employee relations, mediation and negotiation processes. Ruthie is proficient in multi-state staffing, having developed and implemented recruiting strategies that drive major hiring initiatives.
Ruthie’s proficiency in competitor analysis and cost efficiencies contributes to BestAssets’ overall fiscal responsibility as she effectively designs and administers effective benefits plans. And with valuable experience as a licensed real estate agent, she provides a refined perspective of our industry which strategically contributes to developing a team focused on individual and team excellence.
Christopher Martinez
Contract Manager
Christopher Martinez serves as the Contract Manager for BestAssets, overseeing the contract operations team responsible for the disposition of more than 6,000 REO assets per year, nationwide. He directs an extensive broker network and the Asset Management operations team to manage inventory in the manner most timely and profitable for our clients.
Christopher works closely with the Chief Operations Officer to establish and implement Quality Assurance processes, ensuring that key performance standards are consistently achieved along with efficient turnover of inventory.
With nearly a decade of successful experience in operations and business/client development, Christopher has been instrumental in developing partnerships with banks such as, UPS Capital Business Credit, Deutsche Bank and Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. He has also built strong partnerships with League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and Casa Latino.
Linh Nguyen
Closing Manager
Linh Nguyen brings more than a decade of success in mortgage-related management to assist her as the Closing Manager. Her prior experience as National Funding Manager with a major mortgage banker provides her with valuable insight into the intricacies of the closing process. Working closely with the legal department, Linh authorizes all closing and funding policy changes throughout multiple operation centers, resulting in nationwide uniform closing and funding procedures.
With expertise in REO Management and Residential Lending Compliance, Linh is able to efficiently lead her team to accurately process closings in a manner that is both cost-effective and profitable for the client. Her Closing Specialists have exceptional knowledge of the closing process and are able to anticipate unexpected events. With solid communication, Linh and her team partner with Closing Agents, Lenders and Brokers to facilitate expeditious closings to the mutual benefit of the buyer and our client.
